Abby
Can cats and children talk with each other? Eight year old Tamara Holden believes so. When her cat, Abby, tells her of robberies at ATM machines in the neighborhood, Tamara must figure out how to tell disbelieving adults what the cat has told her . . .
Abby is the story of a precocious, talented, misunderstood eight year girl (age range flexible), TAMARA HOLDEN and her extraordinary Abyssinian cat, ABBY. These two have a telepathic bond with one another, leading Tamara to believe her cat can talk. When Abby reports his observations of the prowling of an ATM BANDIT in Seattle that he acquires during his own noctural prowling, Tamara knows she must do something.
However, no one believes Tamara can “talk” with her cat. Her teachers suggest, and her parents agree, that her stories about the bandit are a means of getting attention. Besides, it is well known that Tamara can spin a yarn. Despite insurmountable doubt, Tamara tries to enlist the help of her parents, her teacher and finally the police. Since no one wants to believe her, so Abby and Tamara take on a series of night time escapades to pursue the bandit.
One night they catch up with the bandit. Being stronger, he takes Tamara hostage. At the same time a POLICE DETECTIVE pieces together his clues and the information previously provided by Tamara. Will it be in time to help Tamara?
Abby runs to get help, leading the police to the robber's loft, freeing Tamara and catching the robber who has been terrorizing the city long enough.
Abby and Tamara become local media personalities, heroes and finally, at long last, everyone believes Tamara actually does talk with her cat.
Given that cats are as they are and cat wranglers add to the cost of production, this script is perfectly suited for animation or partial animation as was done in the Garfield Movie.
Conceivably, Abby could be a pilot for a television action adventure series for children.
