The Eye of the Storm
Few pilots, especially sane pilots, fly into the eye of a storm. The scarce exceptions include those brave souls test flying innovative aircraft and those venturing into hurricanes for the benefit of humanity.
When Weather Channel meteorologist, Eleanor Ellison, also a National Guard Reservist and an extremely qualified pilot, is called to crew up for the Hurricane Hunters, she couldn’t be happier. On her first mission and while flying into the eye of the storm, she’s knocked unconscious by turbulence. When she awakens, her fellow aviators and crew are all dead. She flies the plane back to base and immediately begins to deal with unsavory government agents, seeking to find out what really happened up there.
Fatigued and finally home, she receives a call from Henry Hill, a maverick entrepreneur and private jet manufacturer based in Albuquerque, NM. Known for his eccentricity and given Eleanor’s recent experiences, his request to give her a prototype of his latest jet for high altitude storm flying doesn’t seem so odd - only his motive is suspect. What we do not yet know is that Henry shares Eleanor’s “eye opening” experiences. Well, Eleanor can’t resist.
Federal agents persist in trying to get the truth about the tragic hurricane mission from Eleanor. They hypnotize her, adding a dose of truth serum for good measure, but can extract no details from her unconscious. Puzzled, and at the encouragement of one of her Weather Channel colleagues, Eleanor stows away on another Hurricane Hunter flight. Similar events occur, but this time she starts to get the picture... during her unconscious time, she met up with aliens who occupy the eye of the storm and who want to use her media access as a pipeline of information for a troubled humanity.
Henry Hill has been there as well. Naturally he sees Eleanor’s value as a conduit with the extraterrestrials and a broadcast media resource. The only problem now is the government wants Eleanor out of the way, In typical fashion, the powers that be determine the public cannot handle the truth about creatures from other worlds, even if they are here to help.
Not to worry. The aliens, some of whom have managed to wiggle into human form, work to overcome the governmental resistance. Of course none of that would be possible without a harrowing chase across an active runway in a raging thunderstorm at Atlanta’s Hartsfield Airport. Still, Eleanor, an ultimately curious and truth seeking sort of person, must find out more of the truth. A truth she believes is in the eye of the storm and perhaps known by her oddball benefactor in New Mexico.
Ultimately we know Henry and Eleanor are peas in a pod. Or are they? Henry knows way too much about the aliens. When Eleanor returns to New Mexico, she is greeted by most suspicious people and led for a final face to face with Henry on a remote desert Mesa. Can this couple, with such extraordinary connections take what they know of the mysteries that lie in the eye of the storm and fulfill the agenda of those watching from inside the storm? Certainly there's more to a storm than meets the eye.
